Postgame QuotesWestern Illinois head coach Leslie Crane"I'm proud of our win. It was ugly but it was a great win for us. Anytime you can hold a Division I team to 34 points, especially a MAC team, it says a lot about your defense."On holding Northern Illinois without a field goal for nearly 10 minutes:"We just kept putting the defensive pressure on them with fresh players off the bench. We were able to stay within our game plan."On the offense:"We have to do some work to open up our offense. Northern did a good job tonight of stopping our running game. I thought we stopped the ball too soon many times. But then other times we continued to push hard and they ran out of gas."On winning against an instate opponent:"It's always a huge advantage when you can beat an instate opponent. You have those bragging rights for a year when you're recruiting. It's also great to be able to represent the Mid-Con with a win against a bigger school and a bigger conference. You're not just playing for yourself when you face these types of teams. You're playing for so many more people. And to hold a team like that to 34 points, it doesn't get too much better than that."
Freshman Sarah Miller on her responsibility to shoot:"I have to try not to be hesitant. Earlier I was too patient and would pass up good shots, but now I just make sure that we're deep into the shot clock and if I have a good look I have to take it."On adjusting to Division I basketball:"The upper classmen have been great in helping us adjust, setting the examples and setting the standards. We've been really focused this year and that has allowed us to learn quickly. I think we've done a great job from day one as far as picking things up and making the adjustment."
Senior Zane Teilane on her defense tonight:"I knew I had to be on the help side a lot more tonight. We really tried to limit their transitions."On getting farther away from the basket:"I'm having to learn how to shoot from the outside more. I'm getting more confident with it because more and more teams are double-teaming me."
Northern Illinois head coach Carol Owens"Despite the outcome thought our team was right there. We had too many turnovers and that's what decided the game. We played well defensively, we needed to rebound better, and we executed our offense well. We just couldn't get the ball to go into the basket. I'm disappointed with a loss but I think we're headed in the right direction."On the 10-minute scoring drought:"We had our shots. Our high-low game opened up some opportunities for us, including a couple of three-pointers, but they just didn't fall."On Western Illinois' defense:"I thought we rushed a little. Western's pressure forced some turnovers for us. We need to stay patient and execute our offense a little better. But tonight was good in that we need to get used to those pressure situtations."On Northern Illinois' defense:"I liked the way our zone worked. We doubled-up on Zane Teilane a lot down low. We didn't come up with the defensive rebounds at critical times like we needed to."On Western Illinois' late run:"We had two quick turnovers that took the air out of us. Western had a few offensive putbacks and we got into some foul trouble and things started to spiral downward."
