Michna Signs with St. Louis Rams

MACOMB, Ill. - On the same day the St. Louis Rams released veteran quarterback Kurt Warner, the team signed former Western Illinois quarterback Russ Michna as an undrafted free agent. Michna, a 6-foot-3, 230-pound lefthander, earned Gateway Football Conference Offensive Player of the Year awards in 2002 and 2003. In two seasons as the Leathernecks? starting signal caller, Michna, a native of Elk Grove Village, Ill., led Western to a 20-6 record and two trips to the quarterfinal round of the I-AA playoffs. He threw for a school-record 3,160 yards and 21 touchdowns as a senior.Michna will be right at home on the Western Illinois practice fields when he joins quarterbacks Marc Bulger, Chris Chandler and rookie Jeff Smoker, a sixth-round draft pick out of Michigan State, for the Rams? ninth consecutive summer training camp in Macomb, July 28 - August 20. Former Leatherneck linebacker Jason McWilliams (2001-02), who played last season with NFL Europe?s Frankfurt Galaxy, will be in the Rams training camp for a second consecutive summer.
