Leathernecks Hold No. 2 Ranking in I-AA Polls

MACOMB, Ill. - A convincing Western Illinois University win over Tennessee-Martin helped the Leathernecks maintain their No. 2 ranking in both national I-AA polls, as the top five teams remained the same in the Sports Network/CSTV media poll, and the top three remained the same in the ESPN/USA Today coaches? poll. Every Gateway Football Conference team received votes this week, for the first time since becoming an eight-member league in 2000. September 6, 1999 was the last time every member (then seven) was ranked. Both McNeese State and Western Illinois are idle this weekend while Western Kentucky visits I-A Auburn.Walter Payton Award candidate and Gateway Football Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week Russ Michna was honored as one of the top I-AA performers last week by I-AA.org after recording a pass efficiency rating of 331.43. Michna completed 10-of-16 passes (62.5 percent) for 292 yards with one interception and five touchdowns, all in the first half of a 56-0 win over Tennessee-Martin. Nearly one-third of his pass attempts went for touchdowns.
