MACOMB, IL - The Western Illinois University football team recently announced its captains for the 2002 squad as the players selected two offensive players and three defensive players to represent the team both on and off the field.Junior quarterback Russ Michna and senior lineman James Rennick will serve as captains of the offense, while junior lineman Mike O?Brien, junior linebacker Lee Russell and senior linebacker Jason McWilliams will serve as representatives for the defense. Russell will serve as captain for the second consecutive season.?We feel that the team has done a great job of selecting the players who will represent them,? remarked Leatherneck head coach Don Patterson. ?All five of the captains have given us great leadership in the past, and the coaching staff and players are confident that their leadership will continue throughout the season. There are definitely many more than five leaders on this team, but not everyone can be out there for the coin toss.?The Leathernecks kick off their 99th season next Thursday, Aug. 19 with a 6:05 p.m. contest at home against Drake. - western illinois football -
