Coach Joris

Elisa Joris

Elisa Joris joined the Western Illinois volleyball program as an assistant coach in March of 2019. She comes to Macomb from Southern Indiana where she was an assistant for four years.

"I’m super excited to be joining the Leathernecks family," Joris said. "Coach Staupe has great vision for where he is taking the volleyball program. His positive energy and enthusiasm is contagious and I can’t wait to be in the gym with the amazing group of young women in the program."

Joris played her first two collegiate seasons at Grand Valley State before transferring to Wayne State. As a senior in 2005, she was a member of the Daktronics All-America second team and was a AVCA All-America honorable mention. The achievements on the court helped her become a 2012 Wayne State Hall of Fame inductee.

"I am very excited to have Elisa Join our staff," head coach Ben Staupe said. "Her experiences as a head coach, an assistant coach and a hall of fame player will aid her in mentoring successful student athletes. Her recruiting and coaching connections will help in attracting more student athletes to the Leatherneck family.  She is an outstanding communicator and competitor and will be an excellent role-model for our players, allowing her to make a significant impact not only in the gym but in all areas of their life."

The Walled Lake, Michigan native served as the head coach at Adrian College from 2008-2011, where she coached a second team MIAA All-Conference player in 2008 and 2010 before spending the 2012 season in an assistant role at Lake Superior State. At LSSU, Joris mentored a GLIAC Honorable Mention All-Conference player.

A year later, Joris went to Ohio Dominican to start a three-year assistant coaching stint where she helped lead the team to its first conference tournament appearance in school history since transitioning to Division II. On the Screaming Eagles staff at USI, she coached two Second Team All-GLIAC players in 2014 in addition to a 2015 second team GLVC All-Conference player, two Offensive Players of the Week and one Defensive Player of the Week.

Joris graduated with a bachelor of arts from Wayne State in 2008 before getting her master's in sport management from Ohio Dominican in 2015.
