HIGH SCHOOL: The distance runner comes to Western following a high school career in which Smetzer helped lead his high school to a third place finish at State during the 2015 season. Smetzer is a three-time participant at State, appearing in his sophomore, junior, and senior seasons. He finished third at the Illinois Top Times meet as a member of the 4x800 relay.
