Erick Loomis began his post at Western Illinois University in October 2020, and the graduate assistant coach will be primarily responsible for teaching and developing Leatherneck throwers.Â
The duties certainly fit a two-time Big West Conference champion who also sits atop the hammer and weight throw all-time lists at California State University, Northridge.Â
After earning a bachelor's degree in liberal studies, Loomis returned to his alma mater to serve as a volunteer coach.Â
Personal collegiate achievements also include two trips to the NCAA West Region Preliminary (hammer) -- he advanced to the NCAA Outdoor National Championship during his senior season – as well as 2017 and 2019 qualifications to the USA Track & Field Outdoor Championships. He attended Modesto Junior College from 2014-2016 and specialized in hammer, discus, and shotput.Â
He is second all-time on Modesto's hammer list and is a two-time Northern California and all-state qualifier in the hammer and discus. He placed second in the former event at the CCCAA State Championships.Â
