Leathernecks excel in the first Cross Country meet of the season

DEKALB, IL - The Western Illinois Cross Country teams had their first meet on Friday, September 4th at the Husky Classic.

On the Women's side, the Leathernecks had 3 girls place in the top 5, as well as another in the the top 10. It was overall a very impressive performance for the Lady Leathernecks, with all 11 runners going under the 22 minute mark in the first 5k of the season.

On the Men's side of things, Parker Quinlan led the way for the Leathernecks, being the team's only top 10 finisher on the night. The Leathernecks were able to place 5 men in the top 20, however, and proved to themselves that they are ready to compete during this season.

Coach Matt Rosado had a lot to say about the meet, some of which being, "We headed into this meet with two goals 1. To execute our race plans and 2. To win the mental battle in the second half. On all accounts we executed that perfectly and saw great patience in the beginning and a lot of toughness later in the race. Taking care of these two things allow us to continue on our mission to get to our overall season goal at the end of October. Super proud of this group and what we are continuing to build here"

The next meet for the Leatherneck Cross Country teams will be September 19th at Indiana State, where they look to continue on the success and momentum developed from this meet.
