MACOMB, Ill. — Western Illinois men's soccer senior forward Xavier Gagnon was named the Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week following a three-goal performance that helped lead the Leathernecks to a 1-0-1 record during the week.

Gagnon found the back of the net three times across Western Illinois' two matches, playing a key role in the Leathernecks' unbeaten week. The senior forward scored in both contests, providing an offensive spark as Western Illinois opened OVC play.

Gagnon helped lead the Leathernecks to a 2-1 victory over Eastern Illinois in the team's OVC opener on Saturday, scoring one of Western Illinois' two goals in the comeback victory. The win gave the Leathernecks a strong start to conference play.

The honor marks Gagnon's first OVC weekly award of the season.

Gagnon and the Leathernecks continue OVC play Thursday at SIUE.
