Indianapolis, IN - The Western Illinois men's soccer team battled IU Indy to a 3-3 draw Tuesday night in Indianapolis.
IU Indy struck first in the 13th minute when Santiago Sanchez found the back of the net to give the Jaguars an early 1-0 lead.
Western Illinois responded in the 20th minute when Xavier Gagnon converted a penalty kick to level the match at 1-1. The Leathernecks continued to create opportunities throughout the opening half, including shots from Maksim Palisak, Jason Hufnagle and Joel McIntyre.
The teams entered halftime tied at 1-1 before IU Indy regained the lead in the 73rd minute. Jose Antonio Herrera scored off assists from Sanchez and Cobe Hamler to put the Jaguars ahead 2-1.
Western Illinois quickly answered. In the 78th minute, Fernando Adrados Castro scored off an assist from Jokubas Samsonas to tie the match at 2-2.
The Leathernecks took their first lead of the night in the 88th minute when Gagnon scored his second goal of the match, with Guillaume Brunet providing the assist.
IU Indy responded in the final seconds, with Christian Nielsen scoring in the 90th minute off an assist from Tyson Aschliman to bring the match to its final 3-3 score.
Harvey Bolland recorded saves for the Leathernecks before Drew Heller took over in goal to begin the second half.
