MACOMB, IL. — Western Illinois University women's bowling is set to begin its second season of competition, as the Leathernecks prepare for a full 2026-27 campaign featuring competition throughout the fall and spring.
Entering its second year as a program, Western Illinois is looking to build on the foundation established during its inaugural season while continuing to grow as a competitive collegiate bowling program.
The Leathernecks will enter the season with a young and talented roster, returning three of the eight student-athletes from last year's team while welcoming five freshmen who will compete for Western Illinois this season.
The mix of returning experience and new talent will be an important part of the Leathernecks' development throughout the season. The three returning bowlers bring valuable knowledge from the program's inaugural season, while the five freshmen will have an opportunity to make an immediate impact as they begin their collegiate careers.
With a roster featuring significant new faces, the fall portion of the schedule will be especially important as the team works to develop chemistry, establish consistency and adjust to the demands of collegiate competition.
The upcoming schedule will provide the Leathernecks with opportunities to compete against quality programs throughout the fall and spring. Each tournament will give Western Illinois valuable experience as the young program continues to develop its identity and establish itself within the collegiate bowling landscape.
After gaining experience during its first season, Western Illinois enters year two with a clear goal to continue to improve.
The second season provides another opportunity for the Leathernecks to learn from last year's experiences, build consistency and compete at a higher level. With another year of collegiate competition under its belt, the program will look to take the next step both individually and as a team.
The fall portion of the schedule will serve as an important early test for the Leathernecks, allowing the team to gain competitive experience and establish momentum heading into the winter break. Western Illinois will then return to action in the spring with additional tournament opportunities and the chance to continue improving throughout the season.
