Western Challenge Drives Strong Support for Western Illinois University Athletics

Macomb, IL. — Western Illinois University Athletics proudly announced the successful conclusion of this past Friday's Western Challenge, raising a total of $132,684 from 160 generous donors in support of Leatherneck student-athletes.

The annual day of giving showcased the passion and commitment of the WIU community, with several programs stepping up in a big way. Leading the charge were the men's and women's basketball programs, which combined for more than $85,000 in contributions.

The women's basketball program paced all teams with an impressive $53,338, while men's basketball followed with a strong showing of $31,770.

"I am always proud of the way our Leatherneck donors respond on our giving days, and this year's Western Challenge was no exception." Said Paul Bubb, Director of Athletics. "I look forward to continuing to build support for our athletic program with our Leatherneck Club membership drive, which is currently underway."

Funds raised during the Western Challenge will support scholarships, facilities, travel, and overall program development, helping ensure continued success both on and off the field.

In addition to the great turnout for WIU Athletics, the university also recorded another great Western Challenge, receiving gifts from more than 1,000 donors for a total of over $400,000.

WIU Athletics would like to extend a huge thank you to those who made a gift in support of our 18 varsity teams and nearly 400 student-athletes during the annual, one-day event on April 24. Although this year's Western Challenge has come to a close, those interested can still support their favorite cause by joining the Leatherneck Club at this link.
