MACOMB, IL - For the month of April, Western Illinois Athletics recognizes softball junior Payton Brown and baseball fifth-year player Liam Bushey as the Leatherneck Student-Athletes of the Month for their performances on the field.
Brown powered the Leatherneck softball offense throughout April, batting .450 with 18 hits in 40 at-bats while scoring 10 runs. The junior added two doubles, four home runs and 17 RBI during the month, recording seven multi-hit games. Brown highlighted the month with a two-home run, seven-RBI doubleheader against Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles on April 4 and followed it up with a five-RBI performance against Tennessee State Tigers on April 20.
Bushey helped lead the Leatherneck baseball lineup in April, batting .283 with 17 hits across 16 games. The fifth-year player scored eight runs while totaling four doubles, two home runs and 12 RBI during the month. He posted five multi-hit performances, including three-hit outings against Lindenwood Lions and SIUE Cougars. Bushey also delivered a standout performance against Bradley Braves on April 15 with three hits, a home run and four RBI.
