MACOMB, Ill.-Western Illinois beat Tennessee Tech 8-6 Friday in Cookeville, Tennessee.
WIU got on the board in the second when Cordell Coburn singled home Josh McClintock. Tennessee Tech answered in the third with a two-run homer to take a 2-1 lead.
The Leathernecks took control in the fifth. Krayton Morse tied it with an RBI single, Kamryn Link followed with an RBI double, Wandel Campana added a sac fly, and Gage Hoover knocked in another run to make it 5-2.
WIU added three more in the seventh on an RBI double from Campana and a two-run single by Hoover, stretching the lead to 8-2.
Tennessee Tech made a push in the bottom of the inning with a grand slam to cut it to 8-6, but that was it the rest of the way.
Hoover had three hits and three RBIs to lead the offense.
The Leathernecks go on to be 13-27 overall, and 6-10 conference. The Leathernecks will continue their play in Cookeville against the Golden Eagles on Saturday, April 25.
