In their previous game, the Western Illinois Leathernecks picked up an 8-6 win over Saint Louis in Macomb. WIU jumped out early with a two-run home run from Josh McClintock before responding to a Saint Louis rally with a three-run fourth inning, highlighted by a two-RBI triple from Krayton Morse. The Leathernecks added insurance later in the game, including a two-run homer from Liam Bushey, and held off a late push from the Billikens with Eric Rawlings securing the save.
Scouting Tennessee Tech
The Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles baseball enter the 2026 season as a program with a strong foundation, combining experienced returners with transfer talent. After a 37–20 campaign in 2025 and an 18–9 mark in Ohio Valley Conference play, the Golden Eagles added 16 newcomers to both their lineup and pitching staff, giving them depth across the roster. However, early 2026 results show a team still searching for consistency, sitting near the bottom of the OVC standings and struggling in conference play while dealing with uneven offensive production.Â
TTU vs WIU History
The all-time series between the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles and Western Illinois Leathernecks has largely been controlled by Tennessee Tech, especially in games played on the Golden Eagles' turf. Dating back to 2016, the Golden Eagles have consistently found success in the matchup, winning multiple close contests including one-run games and limiting WIU offensively in several outings. The trend continued through 2019 and into 2024, when Tennessee Tech swept a three-game series at home, outscoring the Leathernecks 30–13 across the weekend. However, in 2025, Western Illinois picked up a dominant 8–1 win at home in Macomb to avoid a sweep after dropping the first two games of the series.Â
