MACOMB, Ill.- Western Illinois dropped a 2-5 game to Lindenwood after one bad inning made the difference.
The game was scoreless through four, but Lindenwood broke it open with four runs in the fifth and added another in the sixth to go up 5-0. WIU didn't answer until the seventh, when Cordell Coburn hit a two-run home run to get them on the board, but that was all they could manage.
WIU finished with seven hits but never really put together a strong rally. Liam Bushey led the offense with three hits, while Coburn drove in both runs.
On the mound, Max Tripure went six innings and took the loss, allowing five runs. The bullpen kept it scoreless the rest of the way, but the damage held up.
Western Illinois falls to 8-23 (3-7) with the loss. The Leathernecks hope to come back in game 2 of the series tomorrow back on Lindenwood's turf.Â
