Leathernecks Take on Kansas City  Â
Western Illinois hits the road for a single-game matchup against Kansas City, meeting a familiar opponent from the Summit League. The Leathernecks hold a 51–37 advantage in the all-time series and are 22–12 all-time on the road at Kansas City. The last meeting between the two came in April of last season, where Western Illinois fell to Kansas City, 13–9.
Southern Indiana Series Recap Â
Western Illinois opened its first home series of the season by taking the opener before dropping the final two games to Southern Indiana. The Leathernecks jumped out early in game one and held on for a 5–3 win, but Southern Indiana responded with a 4–2 victory in game two and pulled away in the finale, 15–4 in five innings, to secure the series. Western showed offensive flashes throughout the weekend compiling 23 hits throughout the series but could not overcome Southern Indiana's timely hitting.Â
Scouting Kansas City Â
Kansas City comes into the matchup with an 8–14 record, led by Ella Husak, hitting .354 with seven RBIs, and Megan Johnston, batting .299 with nine RBIs. The Roos have several other hitters who can drive in runs, totaling 149 hits on the season. On the mound, Delilah Robles leads the way with a 2.61 ERA and 35 strikeouts.Â
