Leathernecks Head to Eastern Illinois for Sunday OVC Matchup

Macomb, Ill. – The Western Illinois women's soccer team hits the road Sunday, October 4, to take on Eastern Illinois in Ohio Valley Conference action. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Western Illinois looks to bounce back after a 1-0 loss to Southeast Missouri on Sunday afternoon. The Leathernecks kept the match scoreless through the first half behind a strong performance from goalkeeper Mahee-Lee Caron, who finished with nine saves.

The Leathernecks created several opportunities in the second half, with Claire Brown, Mary Kate Cunniff and Nelly Beliveau each testing the Southeast Missouri defense. However, the Redhawks broke through in the 70th minute to take the lead and held on for the victory. Caron continued to keep Western Illinois within striking distance with several late saves, while Brown recorded a shot in the final minute.

Eastern Illinois also enters Sunday's matchup following a loss to SIUE in its OVC opener. The Panthers fell 4-2 on the road after trailing 2-0 at halftime. Abby Reinl scored in the 49th minute to put Eastern Illinois on the board, while freshman Amara Leppla added a goal in the 81st minute. Leppla has now scored in consecutive matches, while Reinl recorded her 19th career goal.

Sunday's contest gives Western Illinois another opportunity to earn its first conference victory of the season as the Leathernecks travel to Charleston to face the Panthers.
