Women’s Basketball’s Mia Nicastro Earns Second Straight OVC Player of the Week Honor

MACOMB, Ill.- Mia Nicastro of the Western Illinois women's basketball team was named the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week for the second consecutive week, the league announced on Tuesday.

Nicastro continued her dominant senior campaign with a standout two-game stretch, averaging 23.5 points and 11.0 rebounds per contest while logging heavy minutes and delivering in key moments for the Leathernecks.

In a double-overtime battle at UT Martin on Jan. 1, Nicastro led all scorers with 25 points and pulled down 13 rebounds to record a double-double. She played 49 minutes and was perfect from the free-throw line, going 8-for-8, while scoring several clutch baskets late in regulation and overtime to keep Western Illinois within striking distance.

She followed that performance with another strong outing against SEMO on Jan. 3, finishing with 22 points and nine rebounds while shooting efficiently from the floor and continuing to anchor the Leathernecks on both ends of the court.

The back-to-back weekly honors mark Nicastro's second and third OVC Player of the Week awards this season. She currently ranks among the conference leaders in scoring and rebounding and has recorded multiple double-doubles during the 2025–26 campaign.

Western Illinois returns to action on January 8 when it hosts Tennessee State.
