MACOMB, Ill.- Western Illinois University women's basketball continued its strong Ohio Valley Conference play Friday evening, earning a 72–62 road victory over Southern Indiana at Liberty Arena.

The Leathernecks (16–3, 8–2 OVC) used a balanced offensive attack and steady defense to control the game from start to finish, never trailing against the Screaming Eagles (14–5, 8–2 OVC). WIU shot over 50 percent from the field and held Southern Indiana to 36.7 percent shooting on the night.

Senior Mia Nicastro led all scorers with 24 points, adding eight rebounds in a complete performance while playing all 40 minutes. Addi Brownfield followed with 14 points, five steals and five assists, while Allie Meadows knocked down three triples on her way to 11 points. Mallory Shetley and Madison Davis provided key contributions inside, combining for 17 points and eight rebounds.

Western Illinois set the tone early, opening the game with strong defensive pressure and building a five-point lead after the first quarter. The Leathernecks extended that advantage in the second, shooting 66.7 percent from the field to take a 42–27 lead into halftime.

Southern Indiana attempted to rally in the second half, but WIU responded with timely baskets and stops, pushing the lead to as many as 18 in the third quarter. The Leathernecks maintained composure down the stretch, closing out the win at the free-throw line and on the defensive end.

WIU finished the game with a 42–32 advantage in points in the paint and forced 17 Southern Indiana turnovers, turning them into 16 points.
