MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois couldn't overcome IU Indy on Tuesday afternoon, falling 3-1 to the Jaguars at Northwest Field.
IU Indy opened the match with a goal in the 6th minute, but the Leathernecks responded quickly. In the 20th minute, Liam Gainey tied things up for the Leathernecks as he keeps his consecutive goal streak going to tie the match at 1-1.
The Jaguars regained the lead in the 36th minute and added a third in the 79th to seal the result.
Western Illinois generated chances throughout the match, finishing with 12 total shots and six on goal compared to IU Indy's 10 and seven. Both teams earned seven corner kicks. Goalkeeper Micah Ramirez tallied four saves for WIU, while IU Indy's Declan Finnegan made five stops.
Western Illinois moves to 2-6 on the season and will return to action Sunday with a road match at Kansas City.
