MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois women's soccer dropped its Sunday matchup to Omaha, 7-1, at Northwest Field.
Omaha struck early with five goals in the opening half to take control. The Mavericks added two more scores after halftime before Western Illinois found the back of the net in the 71st minute. Sophomore Abigail Schilling delivered the Leathernecks' lone goal, finishing off an assist from Simone Thorst to break through the Omaha defense.
Goalkeepers Ariel Bernard and Lillian Johns split time in net, combining for 10 saves against 30 Maverick shots.
Western Illinois finished with four total shots, two on goal, while Omaha held a 30-4 advantage in attempts and an 11-2 edge in corner kicks.
The Leathernecks move to 1-8 on the season and will return to action Thursday, hosting St. Thomas.
