WIU Falls In Series Opener To Tennessee Tech

MACOMB, Ill-  The Leatherneck Baseball team opened up their three game series at home versus Tennessee Tech on Saturday afternoon, falling by a score of 14-2.

Justin Bogard and Krayton Morse led the way offensively for the Leathernecks, both going 2-4 from the plate and each having two singles. After the Golden Eagles put up four runs in the top of the second inning, WIU would respond right away in the bottom of the second. Kyree Alexander got the rally started with a one-out base hit up the middle, followed by a single from Bogard to put runners on the corners. Trevor Leon would then get an RBI double down the left field line to cut into the Tennessee Tech lead making it a 4-1 game and putting runners on second and third with one out. Paul Osting would then get an RBI groundout to make it 4-2 heading to the third inning. The Golden Eagles would score 10 unanswered runs, including a five-run fifth inning, to take the first game of the series.

On the mound, Max Tripure got the start and threw four innings striking out five. Tripure's command was off as he walked five batters and gave up five runs on five hits. The Leathernecks would use five different relief pitchers this afternoon, getting three strikeouts from the bullpen.

Game two of the series will be tomorrow afternoon at Alfred D. Boyer Stadium with first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m.
