Leathernecks Struggle In Loss To Saint Louis

ST. LOUIS, MO- The Leatherneck baseball team fell at Saint Louis on Tuesday night by a score of 6-0. The offense struggled in the loss, finishing the game with six hits.

WIU threatened right away in the top of the first inning thanks to a lead-off double by Paul Osting. Liam Bushey would follow the double with a walk and the Leathernecks were in business two batters into the game. They would load the bases after Matt Olive would get a one-out walk, but Western Illinois would not score a run in the top of the first after grounding into a double play with the bases loaded. WIU would threaten again in the top of the eighth inning, with Trevor Leon getting a one-out single to right field. Osting would then draw a one-out walk to put runners on first and second. Tyler Large would get a two-out single later in the inning, but Leon would be thrown out at the plate to keep the Leathernecks off the board. Six different Leathernecks collected a hit in the loss, while also forcing three walks in the game.

On the mound for WIU, the bullpen did well for the most part. Harrison Dubois, Billy Humphrey, Colton Kachinsky, and Mason Telford combined to pitch six of the eight innings for the Leathernecks, allowing two runs on six hits combined between the four of them. Despite the loss, the bullpen showed potential for the remainder of the season.

WIU (6-18) will return to Alfred D. Boyer Stadium this weekend as they will be taking on Tennessee Tech starting on Friday for a three-game series. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 2 p.m.
