Box Score 2 Western Illinois Dominates Valparaiso, Splits Day in St. Charles
ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Western Illinois put on an offensive showcase against Valparaiso, securing an 11-7 victory on Saturday. The Leathernecks exploded for 16 hits, highlighted by a five-run fourth inning that put them firmly in control.
RyLee German played a pivotal role, going 2-for-4 with a three-run home run and four RBIs. Payton Brown added a triple, while Ruby Tarr chipped in with two doubles and an RBI. Maria Luna also had a strong outing at the plate, driving in two runs on a pair of hits.
On the mound, Western Illinois' pitching held firm, with K. Green and K. McChristy combining to navigate through Valparaiso's offensive threats. Despite allowing seven runs, the Leathernecks' bats ensured they stayed ahead.
Earlier in the day, Western Illinois faced Green Bay but fell short in a 10-5 loss. Despite a solid showing from Brown, who blasted a two-run homer, and Kaylee Ketcherside's triple, the Leathernecks couldn't overcome Green Bay's 11-hit attack.
The split on Saturday moves Western Illinois to 4-10 on the season. The Leathernecks look to build on their offensive success as they continue their tournament stretch.
