MACOMB, Ill. – The Western Illinois women's basketball team tipped off the 2025 season in dominant fashion Tuesday night, defeating Quincy University 61–43 in an exhibition matchup at Western Hall.
The Leathernecks came out aggressive on both ends of the floor, connecting on more than half of their shots in the first quarter to build early momentum that they never relinquished.
Senior forward Mia Nicastro led the charge with an impressive performance, scoring 24 points on 9-of-11 shooting while grabbing six rebounds. Senior guard Allie Meadows followed with 13 points, knocking down three of her seven attempts from beyond the arc shooting 42% from three. Junior guard Raegan McCowan added 12 points and six rebounds, helping to sustain the team's offensive rhythm throughout the contest.
Western Illinois' defense was equally effective, generating 18 points off turnovers and setting the tone with relentless energy. Despite being edged out on the glass, the Leathernecks outworked the Hawks in key moments, scoring 10 second-chance points to maintain control.
The Leathernecks will officially open their 2025–26 regular season next week when they host Westminster College on Tuesday, November 4, at 7 p.m. in Western Hall.
