Western Illinois Drops Close Match to Lindenwood

MACOMB, IL — Western Illinois women's soccer dropped a 1-0 decision to Lindenwood on Sunday afternoon at John MacKenzie Alumni Field.

Lindenwood's Maddy Vasiloff provided the lone goal of the match in the 31st minute, putting the visitors on top 1-0 — a lead they would hold for the remainder of regulation.

Goalkeeper Ariel Bernard anchored the Leathernecks defensively, registering five saves while facing 19 total shots from the Lions.
 

Offensively, Western Illinois generated three shots on the afternoon, including looks from Kayla Turner and Tyra Sterling, with Sterling recording the team's lone shot on goal.

The Leathernecks held strong in the second half, limiting Lindenwood's opportunities despite an aggressive attack that produced six corner kicks over the final 45 minutes.

Samantha Claesson and Daniela Gularte each played the full 90 minutes for Western, helping steady the midfield and back line.
 

With the result, Western Illinois moves to 1-15-0 overall and 0-6-0 in OVC play. The Leathernecks will look to get back in the win column in there next match at Little Rock.
