Madison, IL - The WIU Men's Golf team wrapped up the SIUE Dolenc Invitational on Tuesday, finishing in 18th place with a team score of +53 for the event.
Owen Howe led WIU in his first collegiate match, finishing T56 shooting 222 (+9). Howe led off round one with two pars before burying an eagle on his third hole. The Freshman would add a bogey on the front nine to finish with a 35 (-1). On the back nine, Howe picked up three pars and two birdies. Howe started with pars on four of the first five holes in round two and finished off the front nine with a birdie. Heading to the back nine, Howe shot five pars and finished off the round with his second birdie, shooting a 79 (+8) in round two. Howe started off round three with a birdie and had six pars on the front nine. Howe was sharp on the back nine with eight pars and one birdie finishing the round with a 71 (E).
Nathan Tillman finished T69 shooting 225 (+12). In round one, Tillman had five pars and two birdies on the front nine. Tillman buried two more birdies on the back nine to finish the round shooting 75 (+4). Tillman shot four consecutive pars to open up round two and had two birdies for the round to finish with a 76 (+5). In round three, Tillman shot seven pars on the front nine and would add a pair of birdies on the back nine to finish the round with a 74 (+3).
Maverick Schwabe finished his first collegiate match placing T79 shooting 228 (+15). Schwabe buried his first birdie on the first hole of the first round. Schwabe shot two more birdies on the front nine and eight pars on the back nine and finished with a 71 (E). Just like Tillman, Schwabe shot four pars to start round two. Schwabe had a strong back nine shooting one birdie, one bogey, and seven pars finishing with a 75 (+4) for the round. Schwabe had ten pars in round three and shot an 82 (+11).
The team is back in action on Monday, Sep. 23, and Tuesday, Sep. 24 at the Zach Johnson Invitational in Des Moines, Iowa.
