OKLAHOMA CITY, OK -  Western Illinois Softball will have multiple representatives with USA Softball this summer, as Leatherneck student manager Parker Hopkins was named a part of the 2024 Men's National Team.

Serving as a student manager for Western Illinois Softball for the past two seasons, head coach Alisa Goler, expressed her gratitude for Hopkins' work. "We have been so lucky to have Parker for the last few seasons," Goler said. "He's a hard worker - and also really really good at softball." Hopkins, a native of Decatur, Illinois, has previously played with USA Softball in the 2020 WBSC World Cup.

Parker is the younger brother of Western Illinois assistant Collin Hopkins, who spoke fondly about his time and opportunity to work with his sibling, saying "It's been a great experience. Having someone in the building who has been in the same environment as you, helps us because he understands our needs."

"(In practice and on the field), he's been a big help catching in our bullpens, throwing in batting practice, and maintaining the field. Parker's a hard worker who gets us ready for game days and helps our facility look professional," Hopkins said of his brother's work with the team over the past two seasons.

"Having someone around who loves the game, is kind, and always willing to help in any way has been amazing, I owe him a lot and am so proud of him," said Goler. Collin stated "It's been fun to watch him learn and grow into the person he is today…I look forward to seeing where his schooling and knowledge of the coaching side of softball come from."

Hopkins joins Goler in taking part in USA Softball this summer, as the Leatherneck skipper will join the Women's U18 and Elite Teams as an assistant coach this year.

Group C of the WBSC Men's Softball World Cup Stage Event will take place from September 17-21, in the softball capital of the world, Oklahoma City. The #6 ranked USA squad will take on Colombia, Guatemala, Japan, Netherlands, and South Africa in the event.
