MACOMB, IL -Â The Western Illinois softball team (8-20, 3-8 OVC) dropped the series finale to Eastern Illinois, 7-4, on Sunday afternoon.
The Leathernecks struck first in the opening inning, taking a 1-0 lead on a throwing error that allowed Payton Brown to score. Eastern Illinois answered in the bottom half with a five-run frame, scoring on an RBI walk and a pair of doubles to take control early.
Western Illinois attempted to rally, scoring one run in the fourth and adding two more in the fifth, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome.
The Leathernecks return home next weekend to host Tennessee Tech.
