Leathernecks Drop Regular Season Finale

MACOMB, IL – Southern Indiana was too much to handle on the final day of the regular season as Western Illinois fell 10-3. The Leathernecks finish the season with a 13-37 overall record, going 8-19 in their inaugural season in the Ohio Valley Conference.

Adam Juran started hot for WIU as he roped a single to lead off the first inning. Without in the top half of the inning, Liam Bushey delivered his first double of the day, advancing Juran to third base. Back-to-back fielder's choices limited the Leathernecks as they could not scratch across a run in the first.

Western Illinois would strike first as Brock Lummus drove a ball over the center field fence for a solo home run. USI responded with ten unanswered runs through the next four innings as the Leathernecks trailed 10-1 after five.

Western Illinois offense stayed stagnant as it was in the 8th inning when the Leathernecks could scratch across a pair of runs. Cesar Franco singled to right field right before Bushey took a fastball 390 feet to dead center for a two-run home run as WIU cut the deficit to 10-3.

Liam Bushey was the driving force for the Leathernecks offense as he collected three hits in his four at-bats, including a pair of RBIs and doubles. Kyree Alexander had a multi-hit day, going 2-4 at the plate. Adam Juran, Cesar Franco, and Brock Lummus rounded out the other three hits for WIU.
