Leathernecks Drop Regular Season Finale to Tennessee State, Split Series 1-1

MACOMB, Ill- WIU Volleyball dropped their regular season finale on the road to Tennessee State two sets to three on Friday night, splitting the series 1-1. While the Leathernecks are finished with their regular season play, they will wait to see their Ohio Volleyball Conference Tournament seeding following the rest of the league's regular season play through Wednesday, November 20. 

As a team, WIU totaled 54 kills and eight service aces on Friday night, led by Keyana Cruse's 15 kills. Cruse's 15 kills etched her name permanently into the WIU Volleyball record books, as she became the program's all-time leader for kills in a single season, surpassing the previous record of 511 kills in a single season. Maggie Craker led the Leathernecks with five service aces on the night. Craker also tacked on 45 assists, which was a match-high. 

The Leathernecks dropped the first set by a score of 20-25. Cruse had six kills, followed by two each from Craker, Grace Nichols , and Elizabeth Ziegler

In set two, WIU responded, winning 25-20. There were 13 tie scores and seven lead changes throughout the set with the Leathernecks ending up victorious. 

TSU reclaimed control in the third set, winning 25-17. The Leathernecks were held to just a .025 hitting percentage in set three. 

WIU rallied back in set four to even the match, winning 25-22. Cruse and Wulf led the way with kills in set four, with four and three, respectively. Craker added 10 assists in the fourth. 

In set five, TSU was victorious, winning the set and the match 15-13. 

The Leathernecks will wait to find out their seed for the Ohio Valley Conference volleyball tournament. The tournament will take place November 24-26, location to be determined.
