Western Illinois Allows Three Early Goals in Loss to Houston Christian

WIU Men’s Soccer continued OVC play on Thursday, falling to the Huskies.

HOUSTON, Tex. - Western Illinois University Men's Soccer looked to bounce back on Thursday night after falling 7-1 in the league play opener to Liberty. WIU allowed a trio of early goals against Houston Christian in their second match, letting three in before the twelfth minute.

Western Illinois let in their first goal in the first minute, as HCU hit a long ball by Theo Butterworth down to Thomas Wyke, who hit a nice through ball into the box for a hard-charging Ryan Okerayi, who slammed it home.

On HCU's second goal, Micah Ramirez made a save on the backside after a blocked shot out of a corner led to a nice entry where Sam Zeeman headed it home. On their third, Ethan Giwa-McNeil ran down the right end line where he entered a pass into the box for Pressler, who scored on a one-timer.

The three goals in twelve minutes ended up being the difference for HCU, as three-nil ended as the final score. WIU dearly missed the presence of center-back and captain Joel McIntyre, who missed the match as he was red-carded against Liberty. WIU was outshot 13-5 in the loss.

Western looks to turn the conference season around on Sunday when the Leathernecks take on Incarnate Word in San Antonio at 1 PM.
