Leathernecks run at Spring Lake Park on Friday

MACOMB – The Western Illinois men's and women's cross country team open the season this Friday, hosting the Western Illinois Alumni Cross Country Invitational. The meet will be held at Spring Lake Park and begins with the women's race at 5:15 p.m. The Leatherneck women won last year's event at Spring Lake Park while the men finished second to Bradley.

WHAT | Western Illinois Alumni Cross Country Invitational

WHEN | Friday, September 1 at 5:15 p.m.

WHERE | Spring Lake Park, Macomb

WHO | Western Illinois, Bradley, Carl Sandburg, Northern Illinois, Sauk Valley

LEATHERNECKS TO WATCH | The Western Illinois women return the bulk of their team from a year ago, but must replace top runner, Paulina Wuestefeld. Aylana Cezar, Maleigha Huston, Kayden Gilmore, Faith Procopio, Madison Trevena and Kristina Petrou return, supplying the squad with plenty of experience.
With eight newcomers on the women's roster, competition will be fierce among Western Illinois' team for those wanting to make a mark on this year's squad.
For the men, returnees Logan Lommel, Caleb Ware, Max Lupo, Robert Perry and Isaiah Moorman give the squad plenty of experience. But much like the women, plenty of new faces will push the Leatherneck veterans.

WHAT'S NEXT | After this Friday's meet, the Leathernecks have a week off before going to Normal, Illinois to run at the Illinois State-hosted Redbird Invite on Friday, September 15.
