Women Tie vs. UNI

Rodriguez's Six Saves Help Leathernecks Stay Even With Panthers

In a match where both sides were highly competitive but neither were able to break through, Western held strong and was able to come away with a point. The Panthers tallied 9 shots with 6 on target, but were not able to hit the back of the net.

Senior keeper Isabel Navas Rodriguez was outstanding again, as she recorded 6 saves against the Panthers. Freshman forward Kelsi McThenia was the only Leatherneck player to record a shot on goal in the match, nearly putting Western ahead in the final minutes.

Emmy Ellington, Hana Daoudi, Malerie Rohweder, and Sarah De Gannes all played the full 90 minutes tonight for Western. Ellington and Rohweder are the only two who have been able to do so in all 3 matches so far for the Leathernecks.

The Leathernecks earned their first draw of the season, as they now stand at an even 1-1-1. Northern Iowa came into the match on a three-match win streak to start the season, so they fall to 3-0-1. Looking ahead at the schedule, Western will spend the weekend on the road, as they head to Chicago to play Loyola on Thursday, Aug 31, followed by a match at Milwaukee on Sunday, Sep 3.
