The Leathernecks lost 0-1 to Loyola on Thursday night

Box Score CHICAGO, IL -- Western's defense held strong for 81 minutes, before Loyola was finally able to score the first goal of the game. The Ramblers dominated the match statistically, as they totaled 25 shots, with 11 on target. The offensive barrage was a tough test for Leatherneck goalie Isabel Navas Rodriguez, but she was stellar once again, as she made 8 saves over the duration of the match, allowing just the one goal.

Western's defense started to shine early, when in the 5th minute junior Emmy Ellington made a goal line stop to deny Loyola of their first score. Later on, in the 28th minute, freshman Ali Matthews made a great play as well, as she was able to get in front of a Loyola attacker just in time to get the stop. Thursday night marked Matthews' first career start for the Leathernecks, and Alexis Vasquez made her first start as well.

Loyola put immense pressure on the Leathernecks throughout the match, as 8 different Ramblers recorded multiple shot attempts. In the 82nd minute, the Ramblers finally broke through, as freshman Zoe Hevey scored for Loyola.

Looking ahead, Western will play at Milwaukee on 1 PM on Sunday, Sep. 3. The Leathernecks then return back to Macomb on Thursday, September 7, when they take on Green Bay.
