Leathernecks Earn USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award

MACOMB, Ill – Western Illinois volleyball team was recognized for their success in the classroom, as the team earned the 2023 USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award this past season.

The USMC/AVCA award was initiated in 1992-93 and honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale or 4.1 on a 5.0 scale. WIU joins 1,331 other collegiate and high school volleyball teams to have won this award this season.

The academic recognition comes following Head Coach Dale Starr's first season in charge of the Leathernecks, which saw WIU have their longest winning streak since 2007.
