22 Leathernecks Prepare for Summer Baseball

MACOMB, Ill – Western Illinois Baseball team will stay active this summer as they have 22 players playing in ten different summer baseball leagues.

Nick Mitchell highlights the seven players who played on the team this past spring. Mitchell will head to the Cape Cod League playing for Y-D Red Sox. Mitchell, who was named to the Summit League First Team on May 23rd, saw his batting improve to the .354 mark well, leading the team in average hits (68), doubles (17), triples (6), home runs (4), total bases (109), slugging percentage (.568), walks (33), and on-base percentage (.454). 

Summit League Honorable Mention Adam Juran heads back to the Northwoods League for his second straight summer. Juran spent last summer playing for the Mankato MoonDogs and the Rockford Rivets. Juran will head back to Rockford, where he played two games last summer for the Rivets. Juran saw his batting average hit the highest mark in his college career, where he batted .288 with four home runs and 19 RBIs.

Kyree Alexander follows his Summit League Honorable Mention season by heading to the Northern League to play for the Chicago American Giants. As a freshman for the Leathernecks, Alexander tied for a team-high with four home runs and ten RBIs. Alexander was busy on the base paths stealing a team-high nine bases.

Jack Bell and Jake Allgeyer also head to the Northwoods League. Bell joins Juran in Rockford for his second season with the Rivets. Allgeyer heads to the Battle Creek Battlejacks for his first season in the Northwoods League.

Redshirt freshmen Eric Cunning and true freshmen Steven Walsh and Chase Golden will play in the prospect league this summer. Cunning and Walsh will stay teammates as they head to Terre Haute, Indiana, to play for the Terre Haute Rex. Chase Golden heads to the other side of the Mississippi River to play for the Burlington Bees.

Western Illinois also has 14 Leathernecks heading to Macomb in the fall playing summer ball this summer. 

Jackson Horn (Kokomo Jackrabbits), Jason Buhl (Lakeshore Chinooks), Fredrick Romano (Green Bay Rockers), William Humphrey (Thunder Bay Bordercats), Will Lavin (Rochester Honkers) all head to the Northwoods League. Grant Palmer (Thrillville Thrillbillies) and Kalen Reardon (Alton River Dragons) will play in the Prospect League. Incoming freshmen Jack Duncan and JUCO transfer Mason Telford will spend their summer in Normal, Ill, playing in the Kernels League. Brock Lummus (El Dorado Walnuts) will play in the Kansas Collegiate League. Chris Hege (Carroll Merchants) takes his talents to the MINK League. Reece Davis (Dubois County Bombers) heads to the Ohio Valley League. Liam Bushey (Nainamo NightOwls) heads to the West Coast League. Logan Fragomeni (Badland Big Sticks) will play in the Independence League.
