Rodriguez Earns 2023 NFCA DI All-Region Honors

MACOMB -- Western Illinois softball player Savannah Rodriguez received one more honor for her strong season, earning recognition on the National Fastpitch Coaches Association 2023 NFCA DI All-Central Region First Team.

Rodriguez, a graduate senior, earned her a spot at utility/pitcher. This year for the Leathernecks, Rodriguez started in 20 of 27 appearances in the circle, throwing 120 total innings while striking out 107 opposing hitters.

Rodriguez made Leatherneck history, throwing the fifth perfect game in program history during the season opener against Detroit Mercy on Feb. 12, striking out 12. She also appeared in 40 games as the team's designated player, batting .280 while leading the team in home runs (seven) and RBI (20) while boasting an OPS of .815 and slugging .491 across 118 at bats.R odriguez  finished her Western Illinois career tied with Ashley Campbell (2009-12) for second in program history with 21 home runs.


The Woodfield, Illinois native was also All-Summit Honorable Mention and named TicketSmarter Co-Peak Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 13.

The National Fastpitch Coaches Association honored 381 student-athletes from 158 programs with 2023 NFCA Division I All-Region accolades.  

The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association's 10 regions with first, second and third-team selections. NFCA member head coaches from each respective region nominated student-athletes (eight maximum) and voted for the teams. All awarded student-athletes now become eligible for the 2023 NFCA Division I All-America squads. The 2023 NFCA Division I All-America teams, voted on by the NFCA DI All-American Committee, will be announced on Wednesday, May 31.
