Kancherla, Rossetto Diniz de Souza End Season With Wins

Leathernecks fall 5-2 to Tommies

WATERLOO, Iowa – The Western Illinois women's tennis team fell in the season finale on Sunday, losing to St. Thomas 5-2. The match was moved to Waterloo, Iowa due to weather conditions in Macomb.

The Leathernecks were able to win a pair of singles matches as Lara Rossetto Diniz de Souza and Lucky Kancherla each closed out the season with third-set tiebreaker wins.

Rossetto Diniz de Souza dropped her first set 3-6, but rallied back, taking the second, 6-4. In the tiebreaker, Rossetto Diniz de Souza won 11-9 to get WIU a win.
Kancherla, a senior, closed out her Leatherneck career with a come-from-behind three-set victory as well. Kancherla dropped her first set 3-6, but stormed back to take the second, 7-5. In the third, Kancherla won the tiebreaker, 10-5.

Also in singles play, Paige Grice (0-6, 4-6), Lorena Castellanos (0-6, 2-6), Aina Cortina-Pou (2-6, 1-6) and Agatha Carbonell (6-4, 1-6, 4-10) each lost.

In doubles, St. Thomas claimed all three matches to get the single team point. The duos of Kancherla and Carbonell (3-6), Grice and Castellanos (2-6) and Rossetto Diniz de Souza and Maria Rybka (3-6) each dropped their matches.
