Western Illinois tennis drops match to Illinois State

Leathernecks at SLU on Friday, Lindenwood on Saturday

NORMAL – The Western Illinois women's tennis team fell to 4-6 on the season, dropping a match 7-0 to rival Illinois State on Wednesday afternoon. The Leathernecks remain on the road the rest of the week, visiting St. Louis on Friday and Lindenwood on Saturday.

The Redbirds had a quick start, winning all three doubles matches. The Western Illinois No. 1 team of Lara Rosetto Diniz de Souza and Maria Ryba played a competitive match, falling 7-5.

In singles play, Illinois State kept it going, sweeping past Western Illinois. Rosetto Diniz de Souza played well in her first set, falling 7-5, before dropping the second, 6-1.

Also in singles play, Paige Grice fell 6-3, 6-2, Lorena Castellanos dropped her match 6-1, 6-1; Aina Cortina-Pou fell 6-3, 6-1; Agatha Carbonell lost 6-1, 6-1 and Lucky Kancherla was handed a 6-3, 6-2 setback.
