WIU Men’s Golf Finishes 18th at Golfweek Intercollegiate

David Ayala leads WIU in South Carolina

MACOMB, Ill - Western Illinois went over to South Carolina to compete in the GolfWeek Intercollegiate. The Leathernecks finished in 18th place with a team score of +56. The tournament was held at the True Blue golf course. It started on Monday March 27 and ended on Wednesday March 29. In round one of the tournament Western shot a score of 303, during round two the Leathernecks shot a 300 score, and on the last day of the tournament they shot a 317 score. 
 
David Ayala led Western Illinois in the tournament. The junior from Bogota, Colombia finished the tournament with a three-round score of 230 that had him tied for 84th. In round one Ayala shot an even par score of 72 with two birdies. In round two Ayala had a score of 75 . Throughout the three rounds played David had a total of eight birdies.
 
Dylan Cervantes and Nathan Tillman tied in 87th. Both individuals had a three round score of 231. The senior from Moline Cervantes shot a 77 in round one, and had a score of 76 in round two. In round two Cervantes shot back-to-back birdies on holes 6 and 7. The freshmen Tillman started round one with a score of 75 in which he had three birdies. In round two Tillman shot an even par score of 72 with two birdies on the front nine. 
 
At the tournament the Leathernecks shot a total of 30 birdies.

Western Illinois are back in action next week as they host the WIU Intercollegiate at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, IL. The Leathernecks will tee off on Monday April 3rd.
