Western grad hired as the Assistant Director of Sports Performance

MACOMB -- Western Illinois Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Performance Jon Minnis announced the addition of Drew Christianson to the Leatherneck Sports Performance staff.

Christianson was hired as the Assistant Director of Sports Performance after completing two years as a graduate assistant at Western Illinois University, where he earned his M.S. in Kinesiology.

As a graduate assistant, Christianson served as the head strength and conditioning coach for the softball, men's and women's golf, and tennis teams. In addition to these teams, he held the responsibility of first assistant with the Leatherneck Football program.

"I am so excited to have Drew back on the sports performance staff," Minnis said. "During his time as a graduate assistant here he showed true loyalty to Western Illinois and the student-athletes. I know the coaches and the student-athletes are also happy to have Drew back. Drew brings high energy and a lot of knowledge and experience to help us prepare the Leathernecks for success on the field and off."

Before coming to Western Illinois, Christianson earned his Bachelor's Degree at Waldorf University (Forest City, IA) in Health Promotion and Exercise Science. He spent his four years at Waldorf University as part of the football program, both as a coach and a player. Christianson also volunteered as an assistant in the weight room all four years he attended Waldorf.

Christianson and his wife (Danielle) are both excited to be staying in Macomb.

"Two years ago, I came to Macomb with the goal of bringing a winning culture back to Leatherneck Athletics," he said. "I am excited to be able to continue to build what we have started here."
