Western Hall Weight Room

The Western Hall weight room recently received a few upgrades.

MACOMB, Ill. - Due in large part to the support and generosity of The Leatherneck Club, Western Illinois Athletics recently unveiled upgrades to its Western Hall weight room. The project included branded plates and new tablets that utilize the software system Teambuildr, an online strength and conditioning program that delivers easy access workout plans for each student-athlete.

Funding for the project was provided by last year's proceeds from the department's annual Purple & Gold Auction, which will celebrate its 30th anniversary on Saturday, August 10, 2019.  The fundraiser strives to enhance the experience of Leatherneck student-athletes and typically includes a social, silent and live auctions, two cash raffles, dinner, and a program featuring WIU student-athletes and coaches.

"The weight room project in Western Hall started a year ago so to see it completed is exciting. We were able to enhance the area by customizing plates and implementing new technology. This project was completed through funds raised at the Purple & Gold Auction. It is important that we use those funds to enhance areas that impact as many student-athletes as possible, and there is no doubt that these enhancements in the weight room affect our entire student-athlete population." - Interim Director of Athletics Danielle Surprenant

"WIU strength utilizes Teambuildr both through the Weight Room View displayed on tablets as well as through the mobile app. Having tablets on our racks allows our athletes to quickly and efficiently interact with their programs while also improving the flow of our room. The mobile app allows our athletes to keep their programs on hand when they travel in-season and when they go home for their breaks. In addition, all of our sport coaches have access to Teambuildr, allowing for a more streamlined communication process among departments." – Director of Strength and Conditioning David Consiglio
