Box Score WOOSTER, Ohio -- A little program history was made Sunday afternoon as the Leatherneck women tennis program topped Ashland University 6-1 in Wooster, Ohio.
The victory improved Western Illinois' record to 4-3, the most wins for the program since the 2018-19 season.
The Leathernecks took two of three doubles matches, then five of six singles matches to get the win.
The victory party was started by the duo of Lucky Kancherla and Aina Cortina-Pou, who won their second doubles match of the weekend, scoring the 6-2 victory. Agatha Carbonell and Paige Grice teamed up to get WIU the doubles point, winning 7-5.
In singles, Maria Rybka locked up a perfect singles weekend, winning her second match of the weekend, 6-3, 6-2.
Lucky Kancherla continued her stellar play this weekend, rallying from one set down to win 4-6 6-2, 10-5 in a tiebreaker. Carbonell also clinched a perfect day, winning her singles match 6-3, 6-4.
Lara Rossetto Diniz de Souza played one of the quickest matches of the day, winning in an hour and 16 minutes on straight sets, 6-4, 6-0.
Grice ended the day in winning fashion, capturing the last match of the afternoon. Grice trailed in both her sets but rallied to win 7-5, 7-6 (7-3).
The Leathernecks are now off until next Saturday, when they play at Northern Illinois.
