Head Coach JD Gravina hit a milestone mark in Western Illinois' win against Chicago State. Gravina took home win number 300 in his career and currently sits just four wins away from becoming the winningest coach in Western Illinois Women's Basketball history.
 
Off To a Hot Start
Western Illinois is off to a hot start to begin the 2023-24 campaign. The Leathernecks are posting a 9-2 record for the second time in the last three years. WIU has had a 9-2 or better record through the first ten games of play just three times under Coach JD Gravina. WIU started the 2021-22 season with an 11-2 record.
 
Chasing History
Head Coach JD Gravina is three wins away from tying Leslie Crane as the winningest coach in Western Illinois Women's Basketball history. He will need four wins to become the winningest coach.
 
Home Court Advantage
Western Illinois has taken full advantage of playing their first seven out of ten games at home. The Leathernecks sit with a perfect 8-0 record at home, defeating teams by an average of 30.75 points a game.
 
Freshman Rising
Raegan McCowan has been leading the Leathernecks all season long. Named the OVC Freshmen of the Week four times this season, McCowan is averaging 17.0 and 6.9 rebounds for WIU.
 
Crashing the Glass
The Western Illinois squad has outrebounded its opponents by 454-344. The Leathernecks hold an 8.7 rebound differential. Western Illinois is cleaning up the offensive glass, outrebounding opponents 136-91 on that side of the ball.
 
Starting Strong, Finishing Stronger
Western Illinois has started the first quarter on fire as they have outscored their opponents 222-159. The Leathernecks have outscored their opponents in all the other three quarters but have dominated the 3rd quarter, outscoring opponents 254-159.
 
Raining Three's.
Western Illinois knocked down a season-high 17 three-pointers against Cornell College. Mallory McDermott buried seven of those 17, with Anna Deets adding six made three-pointers.
 
Western Illinois has knocked down 93 three-pointers, averaging 8.4 a game this season.
 
Roaring 20's
WIU had three players over the 20-point mark for the first time this entire season against Cornell College. Raegan McCowan led the way with 30 points. Mallory McDermott contributed 27, and Anna Deets added 22.
 
Double Figures
Western Illinois has four players who all average in double-digit scoring. Raegan McCowan leads the way with 18.2 ppg, Anna Deets averages 14.2 ppg, Mallory McDermott averages 11.8 ppg, and Addi Brownfield 11.0 ppg.
 
OVC Rankings
Western Illinois ranks number one in the OVC in points scored at 82.5 and points allowed at 60.8. The Leathernecks are also number one in team field goal percentage (47.0%), 3-point field goal percentage (40.3), 3-point field goals made (8.5), Opponent 3-point field goal percentage (28.5), Rebounds (41.3), Team defensive rebounds (28.9), Rebound Margin (10.0), Assist-turnover ratio (1.19)
 
On the player side, Raegan McCowan ranks second in points (18.2), fourth in rebounds (6.7), and first in field goal percentage (51.3%). Anna Deets ranks second in free throw percentage at 90%, and Addi Brownfield is second in steals at 2.1 per game.
