WIU Men Open Home Slate vs. St. Ambrose

MACOMB – The Western Illinois men's basketball team makes its home debut this weekend, taking on St. Ambrose inside Western Hall. The game is slated for a 3:30 p.m. tip with the Leatherneck men taking the floor after the WIU women play Northern Illinois.

LAST TIME OUT | Western Illinois opened the season with a pair of losses, falling at Texas-San Antonio 78-68 in overtime on Monday and 90-53 at Southern Methodist on Wednesday.

In the opener, James Dent Jr. led the way, scoring 20 points. In the second game, Ryan Myers led the offense with 12 points. Jesiah West put up a double-double in the first contest.
 
LEATHERNECKS TO WATCH | Dent leads the team in scoring, averaging 15 points per game. Myers is right behind him with 10 a night. Drew Cisse leads the team on the glass while nine rebounds a night while West adds 8.5 per game.

BLOCK PARTY | Western Illinois leads Division I NCAA men's programs with 20 total blocks and an average of 10 per game. Tay Knox is second in the country with six total blocks.

WHAT'S NEXT | The Leathernecks are off until Friday when they host Southern University inside Western Hall at 7 p.m. The game against Southern is Western Illinois' last home contest until hosting Hannibal-LaGrange on November 30. WIU is on the road the next three games, playing at Valparaiso (Nov. 21), Illinois (Nov. 24) and Wisconsin (Nov. 27).

ABOUT THE BEES | St. Ambrose comes after playing Mount Mercy on Saturday night. Prior to the Mount Mercy game, the Bees are 2-1 overall. SAU went 5-20 last year.
Will Spriggs leads the team, averaging 13 points per game. Ignacio Dacunda 12 points per game while Jake Friel adds 11.0.

HISTORY | Western Illinois is 33-8 all-time vs. St. Ambrose, including winning seven of the last eight. St. Ambrose won the last meeting between the two schools in 2004, 80-65 in Western Hall.
