Women's tennis wins at IUPUI

Box Score INDIANAPOLIS – The Western Illinois women started the 2023 winter/spring campaign in victorious fashion on Friday, topping IUPUI in Indianapolis. The Leathernecks topped the Jaguars 4-3, splitting the singles portion 3-3 after Western Illinois won two of three doubles matches to get the single doubles point.
 
In doubles, the duo of Paige Grice and Agatha Carbonell earned a 6-3 win while Aina Cortina-Pou and Lucky Kancherla teamed up for a 6-3 win.
 
In singles, Grice, Cortina-Pou and Kancherla all continued their winning ways, earning victories.
 
Playing in the No. 1 spot, Grice scored a two-set, 6-3, 6-4 win. The wins for Cortina-Pou and Kancherla did not come as easily. Kancherla won two tight sets, 7-5, 7-6 (3) while Cortina-Pou clinched the match for the Leathernecks with a three-set win.
 
Cortina-Pou dropped the opening set 6-4, but rallied back to win the second 6-2. In the third, Cortina-Pou closed it out, triumphing 6-4.
 
The Leathernecks are back in action on Sunday, traveling to Western Kentucky.
