WIU Looks for Winning Ways on the Road

Last Week | WIU opened Summit League play with matches against North Dakota and North Dakota State at home. The Leathernecks dropped both matches on the homestand. WIU battled with North Dakota but fell in four sets (25-16,17-25,16-25,22-25). They lost in straight sets to NDSU (14-25,18-25,23-25). Aubrey Putman had 21 kills between the two matches. Brittany Wulf was right behind her with 15. Karli Wenzel had 15 digs in both games.

Freshmen Success | Freshmen Elizabeth Ziegler and Grace Kremer are making a name for themselves at WIU. Both freshmen are averaging over one kill per set. Ziegler leads all freshmen on the team with 129 kills. She leads the team in hitting percentages at .258. Kremer is second out of the freshmen with 46 kills. Both are in the top three in blocks on the team, with Ziegler leading the way with 31 blocks and Kremer third with 23.

Scouting Kansas City | Kansas City comes into the matchup with a 3-11 record. The Roos opened their Summit League play with a four-set loss to Oral Roberts ((25-15, 25-18, 16-25, 25-22). Odyssey Warren leads the Roos in kills (159), averaging 3.12 kills per set.

Scouting Omaha | Omaha opened their Summit League slate with road matches against South Dakota and South Dakota State. The Mavericks lost both matches in five sets to bring their record to 5-7. Omaha is 2-2 at home this season, with their only losses to Florida State and Creighton.

Scouting Denver | Denver comes in with a 1-1 Summit League record 7-6 overall after splitting their first two games of conference play. The Pioneers defeated South Dakota State in their opening match last Thursday (Sept. 22) and fell to South Dakota on Saturday (Sept. 24). Denver is 5-0 at home this season.

What's Next | Western Illinois will travel back to Western Hall for battles with South Dakota and South Dakota State.
