NEW ORLEANS, La – Western Illinois dropped their final match of the New Orleans Invitational to the host New Orleans Privateers (15-25, 23-25, 25-18, 15-25). The Leathernecks move to 4-6 on the season.

The Leathernecks and Privateers battled to start the opening set. Back-and-forth action saw the host pull ahead early. New Orleans used a 6-0 run to take a 13- 6 lead. Three Privateers errors and a Julianna Schmidt kill saw WIU go on a 4-0 run to get within four (15-11). New Orleans would respond with a run to close the set 25-15. Set two saw WIU come out on a roll. An opening 4-0 run centered around two Elizabeth Ziegler kills put WIU up four. The Leathernecks would climb their way out to a 7-3 lead before New Orleans would start to claw back. New Orleans used a 4-0 run in the middle of the set to tie the set at 14. Both teams would trade points before Brittany Wulf would get back-to-back kills to put WIU up one. The Privateers would respond with three straight points and take set two 25-23. The third set once again saw WIU pull out in front. WIU would use a kill by Ziegler and two by Wulf to get the separation. Those two would get the final two points in the set as WIU would cruise to a 25-18 victory. Set four would see the host control. After two Julianna Schmidt kills, the Privateers would use an 11-4 run to take control. New Orleans would take the final set 25-15.
